Summary: | Letter from Lord Cornwallis [Charles, 1st Marquess and 2nd Earl Cornwallis (1738-1805)] in Dublin Castle to Thomas Conolly, assuring him that he hopes that non-military measures will induce insurgents to surrender and alludes to his willingness to ensure that the proclamations issued by the generals are regarded as valid. He refers to Lord Castlereagh's assurances to Conolly. Endorsed: ‘About a mistake in a proclamation. Copy of Lord Cornwallis’s answer to Mr Conolly, who wrote to him word of the doubts that were entertained of the validity of the proclamation for want of the Lord Lieutenant’s name and signatures of the Privy Councillors to it.’ |
