Summary: | Thomas MacDonagh's final speech [featuring a head and shoulders black and white image of him within an oval] given before he was executed - which was widely distributed - however its authenticity has been debated as the official transcript of MacDonagh's trial did not record the speech. MacDonagh was convicted of treason by court martial for his role in the 1916 Rising and was sentenced to death by firing squad; he was executed in Kilmainham Gaol on 3 May 1916. |
