| Summary: | Parsons is responding to a letter requesting him to order the discontinuance of the quarterly practice of the life saving apparatus on part of The Murrough that belongs to his correspondent. He explains that the officer temporarily in charge of Arklow division, in his (Parson's absence), changed the place of drill in order to collaborate with the crew at Five Mile Point; and that he inadvertently omitted to apply first to the landowner, for permission to practise on his land. He says the officer would not have wished to cause him any annoyance. |

| Notes: | The apparatus referred to may be one used for firing a rocket with a line attached across a ship in danger of being wrecked. The line was used to pull a boat to the stricken vessel and take off the crew and passengers. The paper is stamped with an upraised arm holding an axe and the motto 'Pro Deo et Rege'.
