Summary: | Writes, "I am old compared to you, I have had much of the hope knocked out of me. And I have made so many mistakes - so often undershot of overshot the mark - that I have not the same confidence in myself I used to have". "For a long time - perhaps a generation or two - until the friction of politics wears off the present excessive clerical spirit of Irish Nationality - Catholics will fairly and naturally be preferred in every position of trust, representative or otherwise". |
