Westmeath in support of James Geoghegan, a Fianna Fáil candidate for Longford-Westmeath in the by-election held on 13 June 1930. He served as Minister for Justice in Éamon de Valera's first cabinet [1932–33]; he became Attorney General of Ireland in 1936 and was subsequently appointed to the Supreme Court [22 December 1936], retaining his Dáil seat until 1937.
