| Summary: | The credentials are included in three languages, English, Irish and French, with each copy signed by Cathal Brugha, Count Plunkett, Eoin Mac Neill and Richard Mulcahy. In his letter, O'Kelly notes that the credentials were never used as Georges Clemenceau "refused me a hearing to present them". Other items enclosed include 'Provisional constitution of Dail Eireann Drafted by Select Committee "A"' containing four articles outlining the legislative powers, ministries, role of the chairman and financial organisation of the Dail; a statement by the representatives of the first Dail Eireann ratifying the establishment of the Irish Republic in the name of the Irish people; and a statement, addressed to "the Nations of the World" seeking recognition for the Irish republic and support for "the maintenance of her national independence". |
