Summary: | Caption reads: Lloyd George: "Now, you're quite clear about everything?" Lord Edmund Talbot [Edmund Bernard FitzAlan-Howard, 1st Viscount FitzAlan of Derwent]: "Absolutely. Just the good old motto, to halve and to hold. Unpublished caption is handwritten above the image and reads: Lloyd G.: "I hope you'll make plenty of friends!" Lord Talbot: "Don't worry about that. I know heaps of people in Belfast!". Illustration depicts the last Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Edmund Bernard FitzAlan-Howard, 1st Viscount FitzAlan of Derwent [known as Lord Edmund Talbot, between 1876 and 1921] on a train called the "Castle extra special", before it pulls out of the station. On the platform saying goodbye to him are David Lloyd George, Edward Carson and Lord Birkenhead [also known as "Galloper Smith"]. Carson hands Lord Talbot a telegram, saying "Here's a wire from Bonar! [Andrew Bonar Law]". Above Lord Birkenhead is written: Galloper: "Remember me to all our mutual friends!". |
