Summary:This Bridge spanning the Cam Cor river was built in the early 1600's. Before the new Oxmantown bridge upstream was built in much more recent times, this bridge was in the then main road connecting Birr with the south and west of Ireland. In 1709 a row of houses was built right across the bridge on either side which were inhabited right up to the 1940's when they had to be removed for safety reasons. The railings in this picture marks the site of the houses.
