| Summary: | Richard Viscount Sol selected 100 acres of land overlooking the sea, mountains and the city od Dublin and built Mt Merrion House. This is the last remaining part of the House, which had been added to the old building in the early eighteenth century. Later the Pembroke family lived here, and Lady Beatrix, the eldest daughter of the Earl of Pembroke and her husband SIr Nevile Wilkinson. They had two children Guendolen and Phyllis. One day Guendolen was playing in the woods in Mt Merrion beside her father who was painting the roots of the sycamore tree. She said she saw a fairy, so her father said he would have to build a home for Titania and this he accomplished after 16 years. The palace had 16 rooms and furnished to scale, 1 foot to 1 inch. |
