Summary: | Skryne (pronounced Screen) is derived from the Latin word Scrinium meaning Shrine because the Shrine of St. Columcille's Relics were brought here to this Monastery in 875 A.D. from Iona in Scotland for safe keeping. Unfortunately the Monastery was plundered many times in later centuries. |
