Summary: | Wicklow presently has a wonderful collection of post boxes dating back well over a century from George V, Edward VII and Queen Victoria through Saorstait Eireann to the present day. The Edward VII postbox, on the old Gas Lamp post at the junction of Brickfield Lane and Church Hill is still in daily use. Hopefully the set of post boxes will remain in place for many years to come. Wicklow Gas Co. supplied the mains gas which lit the town in pre-electricity days but sadly now only a few reminders of "Gas days" remain in place. |
