Summary: | This view is taken from the north/west slopes of Knockadoon. Lying off the near shore is the Garoid Island, a natural island named after the 4th Earl of Desmond. Probably inhabited since the early stone age, traces of medieval buildings are still to be found there. Barely visibly off the far shore is Crock Island, a small crannog. The fine house in the background was built by the deSalis family in the 19th century. Local landlords, benevolent, a Papal Count deSalis resided there in the first decade of this century. Later it was occupied by Col. Bob Galloway, the Matsons, and the present incumbent, Mr.Pat O'Sullivan. |
