Summary: | This lime kiln is unusual as it is a circle and smaller than others it was built by O'Dea family to burn lime to fertilise their land. it was used only once a year the principle of burning lime is a layer of fir bushes a layer or turf a layer of broken stone a layer of turf up to the top the top is then sealed with sods of earth with a hole for the smoke the fire burns for two days the lime and ash is taken out at the bottm when it has cooled down. |
