Summary:The slower water in the final reaches of the Six Mile Water is popular for course fishermen. In this photo the final stages of the construction of a new boundary wall for the Royal Engineers' base is evident, some one month after the IRA ceasefire. This base is however a permanent one and the presence of the army and the navy on this site predates the Troubles. Up to the mid 1970s the Admiralty maintained a factory here for the production of torpedoes. At one time the Lough was used for testing of torpedoes.
