Summary: | McNeill Court, sheltered accomadation for the elderly, opened in 1993, stands on the site of McNeill's Hotel. Henry McNeill, born at Deerpark, Glenarm, came to Larne in 1853 and started a business as a spirit merchant and posting master. He carried on his business for 51 years, and was known as "Knock-em-down", his favourite expression when treating his customers to to drinks. A pioneer in the tourist trade he catered for thousands of visitors each year, taking them from Larne by the coast road to the Giant's Causway. McNeills Court is a fitting memory to this great man. |
