Summary: | The warehouse at Jaymount, Circular Road, Larne part of the Paper Mill, was built in 1886 on the site of Kane's Foundry. Tom McCauley, forklift operator, with warehouse supervisor, Marilyn Weeks, stack reels of tissue weighing one tonne. The Paper Mill, Established near Larne Town centre, in 1886, is the only surviving papermill in Ireland. Originally it was used to produce a variety of wrapping and poster papers, but now only produces tissue using 100% recycled paper. Two machine produce 20,000 tonnes per annum. 130 workers are employed at the mill. |
