Notes: | The notes on the establishment of a national system of education in Ireland are written on Social Science Association, Dublin, 1861, headed paper. William Eden (17441814) 1st Baron Auckland, was an English politician and diplomat, and was Chief Secretary for Ireland 1780-82. In 1798 Eden was appointed joint postmaster general, and Pitt regularly sought his advice on Ireland during the negotiations for the Act of Union, especially on matters of trade and finance.
