Summary: | Features largely captioned photographs relating to British Army manouvres in South Africa during the Boer War, with particular reference to Mpumalanga province. Includes photographs of military camps in Sanderton and Pardekop, military convoys of troops and livestock over the Pongola, Assegai and Spruit Rivers, the hospital, church and camp at Middleburg, the 'clearing out' of a farm and an early motor car. Also included are photographs of African villagers and communities (possibly North Africa) and views of villages in counties Longford and Westmeath, notably local cricket matches, garden parties, cottages and shops, St. John's Church, Ballinalee, Aughnacliffe post office and dolmen, Daramona House and Observatory and the Streete Institute. |

Engineer, economist and astronomer, Edgeworth (1880-1972) was born in Daramona House, Street, Co. Westmeath. He served in the Royal Engineers and Royal Signals, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1926, after which he worked for the British Department of Posts and Telegraphs in Sudan.
