"Even the Gods nod" [graphic] /

Gordon Brewster.
Bibliographic Details
Main Creator: Brewster, Gordon, artist.
Summary:Caricatures of several Irish doctors amongst them Oliver St. John Gogarty, who was also a member of Seanad Éireann from 1922 to 1936 (indicated by the sign that says 'Leinster House'). A swan is depicted at his side in this illustration - following a celebratory lunch in the Shelbourne Hotel, [accompanied by his wife, W.B. Yeats and W.T. Cosgrave amongst others], he famously released two swans into the River Liffey at the Trinity College Boat Club, Islandbridge on 24 March 1924 as a gesture of gratitude for the river having saved his life the previous year when on 20 January 1923 he escaped his captors [and probably murder] by jumping into the Liffey. A current swept him downstream and to the opposite river bank.
