[A reference to the Austro-German Customs Union announced in Vienna in March, 1931; however in the autumn of 1931 the Permanent Court of International Justice based in The Hague (an international court attached to the League of Nations, 1922-1946) held that such a régime would not be compatible with the Protocol for the Reconstruction of Austria signed in Geneva on 4 October 1922].
