Following the 1916 Easter Rising, the Irish National Aid Association (INAA) first under the direction of George Gavan Duffy and Alderman Patrick Corrigan was combined with Kathleen Clarke’s Irish Volunteer’s Dependant’s Fund (IVDF) to form the Irish National Aid and Volunteer Dependants’ Fund (INAAVD). Kathleen Clarke, the wife of Thomas Clarke, had access to IRB funds which was used for the aid and relief of those involved in the rising. The INAAVD was run by women, with Kathleen Clarke as president, Áine Ceannt as vice-president, Máire Nic Shiubhlaigh as treasurer and E. MacRaghaill as secretary. Clarke later employed Michael Collins who used his position to direct the activities of the IRB. |
