Summary: | O'Kelly writes of the young lads in the camp "Some of them too are delicate and would need still their mother's care if they are to come to any good or to be brought up as healthy and useful citizens. I think 'tis a scandal that the like of them should be kept so long in a place like this." and writes of the newspapers being withheld from them "....they are withheld from us at the whim of some officer who thinks the news they contain would not be for our good. This even applies to such rags as the "Independent" and "Freeman".". |
