Notes: | Thomas William Lyster joined the National Library of Ireland as a member of staff in 1878; he was appointed Director of the National Library of Ireland in Dublin in 1895 and remained in that position until his retirement in 1920. Lyster was the model for the ‘Quaker librarian’ in the “Scylla & Charybdis” episode of James Joyce’s 'Ulysses' but he was in fact a member of the Church of Ireland [Anglican Church].
