Helen Hooker O'Malley met Máire Comerford at Cormac and Moira O'Malley's wedding reception. Máire was a former military comrade of Ernie O'Malley. She served with the women's paramilitary group Cumann na mBan during the Irish Revolution. Máire later became a successful writer.
