Contains Niall Montgomery's loose handwritten notes originally filed with the material for his articles 'Joyeux Quicum Ulysse...' and 'The Pervigilium Phoenicis'. Includes many notes and quotes on Joyce ('Finnegans Wake', 'Ulysses', 'My Brother’s Keeper') as well as Marcel Proust, W.B. Yeats, Samuel Beckett, John Millington Synge, Daniel O’Connell, Jonathon Swift and Oscar Wilde. Some of the pages have been given theme headings such as romanticism, classicism, affection, fun, vernacular, smell, reality, music, Gaelic, history, politics, Catholicism and Christianity. Also contains a typescript entitled 'Bonum est In Quod Tendit Appetitus. S. Thomas Aquinas.', Joyce's speculations about Aquinas’ ideas of the true, the good and the beautiful that he later incorporated into 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man'.
