Following the 1916 Easter Rising, the Dublin Brigade was rebuilt in 1917 and 1918 and received an influx of new recruits. The brigade campaigned for Sinn Fein during the 1918 General Election and took an Oath of Allegiance to Dáil Éireann in 1919 and began to refer to themselves as the Irish Republican Army.
