Letter from Patrick McCartan to William J. Maloney, regarding a lunch he arranged with Joseph McGarrity, Michael Collins and Harry Boland in an attempt to make peace with De Valera, and regarding Irish politics during the Civil War,

1923 Feb. 12.

McCartan states that though he understands McGarrity and Maloney are now Anti-Treaty supporters and that their support "is regarded by them here as a great asset", he stands by his support of the Treaty and says that "The Dail is now our only hope". McCartan also remarks that it was him that stopped Maloney seeing Liam Mellows before his execution as he did not know he would have no other opportunity.
