Letter from Rev. Father Frederick Smith to Roger Casement regarding the opinion on the "other side" regarding the Putumayo, the Barbadians and Americans and their concept of instilling terror in the Indian natives and "negroes" hearts in order for them to do their bidding, and also discussing "Antonio Menacho" who is a resident of Barbados originally from Peru,

1912 Feb. 22.

Smith also discusses a "very rich" man named "Antonio Menacho" living in Barbados, originally from Peru, who has not heard anything of the Putumayo atrocities as he lived further down the Amazon river in the Acré tributary and states; "so he can know nothing about the actual facts." and "I still think he has been led astray by false information and for this I am sorry, as he is a man I believe to have some influence in Lima personally and through friend.".
