Henrietta Mary Deane was the daughter of Sir Thomas Newenham Deane and later the wife of Caesar Litton Falkiner. Her autobiography gives an insight into the priviledged world of the Anglo-Irish ascendancy in the late Victorian and Edwardian period. Acquaintences of the Deane and Falkiner families are mentioned including Anthony Trollope, Dean Liddell and Alice Liddell, Walter Osborne, Earl of Ormonde, Sir Horace Plunkett, Benjamind Woodward, John Ruskin, King Edward II, Gerald Fitzgibbon, Edward and William Gibson, David Plunkett (Lord Rathmore), Nicholas Poer O'Shee, and Sir Eyre Shaw.
