Manuscript and typescript drafts of the memoirs of republican Kathleen Clarke (née Daly), in which she recalls her early life in Limerick, the Fenian tradition within her family, her meeting and later marriage to veteran Fenian Tom Clarke, his participation in the Easter Rising, his subsquent execution, her own imprisonment in Holloway Jail and her political career with Sinn Féin and later Fianna Fáil. Contains both notebooks and typescript sheets.

Description:Markievicz writes of the circumstances of her arrest, her receiving food from well wishers in Cork, her concern for Clarke's sons and their career paths, her using her time in prison to read, think, study and 'build up an ideal Republic in my mind', receiving visitors, her paintings (then being stored by Clarke and Kathleen Cruise O'Brien) and news of Eamon de Valera 'making a great stir' (29 July). Her letters are dated 15 June to 28 August 1919.
