Letter from Patrick J. Tobin to James Connolly regarding Richard Cody's withdrawal as a candidate for elections in Cork and the effect of the oppostion from the Catholic Church on the socialist movement in Cork,
1902 January 6.
Tobin refers to a letter from Bishop Thomas Alphonsus O'Callaghan and the disastrous effect of "priests' altar lectures at all Masses for a few Sundays". Tobin also notes he is glad that the Dublin Branch has exonerated [William J.] Gallagher and William D. Horgan completely and hopes that they realise Cornelius Lehane's action "was dicated by the same circumstances". Richard Cody withdrew as a candidate for the Cork Municipal elections after Connolly's severe criticisms of Cornelius Lehane.
