Letter from Cornelius O'Lyhane [Lehane] to William O'Brien urging him not to permit James Larkin to travel to the United States during the Dublin Lock-out under any circumstances; encouraging him to fight, and offering advice on the best course of action,
1913 December 30.
Lehane writes Larkin's "departure at this juncture would have a similar effect as if Napoleon in the midst of Battle of Waterloo decided to mount his horse & run to Rome to address the shade of Caesar.". Lehane recommends an emergency meeting of the Irish Trades Union Congress and a ballot of English trades unions on the "blockading of the port of Dublin". Lehane offers encouragment and advises O'Brien to get together with James Connolly and James Larkin and "decide how best you can force the fighting right away. Get a move on you, as they say, & grip the position by the throat now.".
