Dempsey states that the branch secretary's threats to kick in his teeth do not frighten him and that "If any of your braves want to try it on why don't they tackle me and not be talking about it". He also notes "If you have anything to say about me come into the open [...] I will be compelled in my own defence to tell you a few home facts about your private life. So be careful about what your touts are saying and tell your Branch secretary to get heavy boots".
