Muriel Gahan Papers,

1930-1994.

Papers of Muriel Gahan, reflecting her work as a promoter of traditional crafts in Ireland and role in the establishment of The Country Shop, Country Workers Ltd., the Irish Homespun Society and Country Markets Ltd. The collection also sheds light of her active involvement in further organisations such as the Royal Dublin Society, the Irish Countrywomen's Association, Foras Éireann, Macra na Tuaithe, the Crafts Council of Ireland and the credit union movement. Also included are papers of Blanaid O'Reilly, concerning the work of the Conor Magee Trust which provided financial support for weavers in the Donegal Gaeltacht and with whom Gahan collaborated as an I.H.S. member.

Included is a letter from James J. Doyle, Chief Clerk at Grangegorman Mental Hospital, concerning the appointment of an instructor in spinning and weaving at the Hospital (26 Feb. 1941).
