The successful "vote of confidence" in favour of W.T. Cosgrave possibly dates the letter to August 1927, when the Labour Party and Fianna Fail, along with a number of smaller parties, proposed a motion of no confidence in the Cumann na nGaedheal government which failed, although the letter states that the motion was sought after by W.T. Cosgrave.
