Letter from Mick McDonnell to Joseph McGarrity regarding difficulties in getting his trunks sent to him in San Francisco and his growing disillusionment with Ireland after the murder of his brother and the burning of Seán McGarry's house while his children were inside,
1923 Jan. 22.
McDonnell writes "I am thinking more and more every day that Ireland has still a race of savages as I know of no one else who would be guilty of what I have mentioned. I also think England was right when she said that Ireland was not able to govern herself; she has proved it now. Though the Black and Tans were bad they never burned children in their beds".
