The text, unsigned, reads: "John Devoy Traitor, I suppose you know that you are the commonest and the dirtiest and the basest scoundrel that was ever born of a white woman. When men who lead an honorable life and who are true to their country happen to die, crowds gather and throw flowers on their graves, when you die, if any crowd gathers it will be to shit on your grave".
