Mrs. Cavanagh of 7 Rathmines Avenue remembers the devastation of cholera; the location of the since-disappeared Swan river; cans of water selling for 1d in Rathmines; an accident whereby a bus fell into the canal and most passengers were drowned; and how "water scarcity was very acute". These notes were utilised by Lily O'Brennan in preparation for her lecture 'Little rivers of Dublin'.
