Papers of actress and republican Máire Nic Shiubhlaigh. Includes letters and cards sent to Nic Shiubhlaigh from friends and associates including Padraic Colum, Alice Milligan, Lennox Robinson, Joseph Holloway and Seumas O'Sullivan. Also included are typescripts of plays by, amongst others, Lady Gregory, Seumas O'Kelly and Alice Milligan, theatre programmes, documentation relating to her radio broadcasting work and drafts of lectures and autobiographical writings that relate to her involvement with the theatre movement in Ireland, the early years of the Abbey Theatre and her participation in the Easter Rising.

Description:Copybook containing an incomplete draft lecture in which actress Nic Shiubhlaigh writes of her involvement the Irish National Theatre Society, and her recollections of early productions of the plays 'The Countess Cathleen', 'Kathleen Ni Houlihan', 'Deirdre' and 'The Shadow of the Glen', the Abbey's first tour in England and the contributions made to Irish theatre by Annie Horniman. She also refers to her own day job at the Dun Emer Guild.
Attached are loose worksheets (42 pp) containing a possible later draft of the same lecture, in which she refers to the contruction of the Abbey Theatre building, her departure from the Theatre and subsequent return in 1911 and the Abbey's first American tour. She makes passing reference to the death fellow actor Dudley Digges, who had died shortly before her writing the lecture; Digges died in October 1947.
