Papers of actress and republican Máire Nic Shiubhlaigh. Includes letters and cards sent to Nic Shiubhlaigh from friends and associates including Padraic Colum, Alice Milligan, Lennox Robinson, Joseph Holloway and Seumas O'Sullivan. Also included are typescripts of plays by, amongst others, Lady Gregory, Seumas O'Kelly and Alice Milligan, theatre programmes, documentation relating to her radio broadcasting work and drafts of lectures and autobiographical writings that relate to her involvement with the theatre movement in Ireland, the early years of the Abbey Theatre and her participation in the Easter Rising.

Description:Nic Shiubhlaigh writes of her early childhood in Dublin, her father's support for Parnell and work for the newspaper 'The Carlow Vindicator', her first job, involvement with the Gaelic League and Inghinidhe na hÉireann, her friendship with Frank and William Fay, early appearances on stage, first meeting with Æ, the establishment of the Irish National Theatre Society and the first production of John Millington Synge's play 'The Shadow of the Glen'.
