1917.
Leaflet in the form of a letter concerning a strike by prisoners in Lewes Jail, East Sussex, England. The prisoners, whose requests to be treated as prisoners of war were refused, rioted in their cells and were subsequently transferred to other prisons. An accompanying manuscript note describes how the letter was dropped by Boland in the street and delivered to his mother, and that the treatment of the prisoners led to a publicity campaign and their release in June 1917.
