He helped to form the Naas Company, Irish Volunteers, and was the Officer Commanding at various times 1917-1920. He was Chairman of Naas Board of Guardians, Sinn Fein councillor Naas UDC. He was interned in the Rath Camp, the Curragh, and Ballykinlar, Co. Down, November 1920 - December 1921. He was Captain in the National Army, 1922, and servied in the LDF during the Emergency.
