Arthur Griffith Additional Papers,

1909-1952.

The collection contains, for the most part, letters sent to Arthur Griffith during the months immediately following the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty during which time he served as President of Dáil Éireann. It includes letters sent to him by members of the Irish public, which reflect both support for the Treaty and anxieties about partition, congratulatory messages from Irish Americans and some letters from political colleagues within Ireland, notably William Cosgrave and Sean T. Ó Ceallaigh. Also included are some letters and documentation dating from Griffith's detention in Reading and Gloucester prisons, letters to his wife Maud and son Nevin written after his death, commemorative political postcards and newspapers cuttings compiled by the Griffith family. This collection is additional to the Arthur Griffith Papers, MS 49,530.
