Letters concern family and domestic matters, Hamilton's thoughts on the appropriate education for children, how young women should behave and dress ('avoid ... even in your dress, uniformity to the world'), home remedies and recipes, her preferences in servants, attending religious services (including those organised by Lady Elizabeth Powerscourt), the 'villany' of William Gladstone, her experiences during a prolonged visit made to Boulogne with her husband in 1852 forced upon them after a financial dispute with a member of the Synge family, and her advice to her daughter following the death of the Rev. Howard in 1857. Many letters are undated; some with attached envelopes.
