Letter from Dr. William Carroll to John Devoy detailing his decision to break politically with Charles Stewart Parnell,

1880 Mar. 23.

Carroll's falling out with Parnell arose from the former's resentment of the treatment of his friend, John Murdoch by John Dillon and Parnell. Carroll was also fearful that the activity of Parnell's parliamentary movement, the Land League, in America would undermine the position and authority of Clan na Gael within the Irish community.
