Haberer's copy letters, dated 29 May to 20 July 1998, invite Heaney to speak at at the University of Lyon and Sorbonne on his translation 'Beowulf'. Heaney (in letters dated 11 June and 8 Aug. 1998) turns down the offer, referring to his busy schedule of public appearances. He also refers to his writing a poem to celebrate 'some bridge ... in Luxembourg' and includes a typescript draft of the untitled poem he was writing, beginning 'Steady under strain and strong through tension'. With an attached envelope.
