I.ii. Correspondence between Seamus Heaney and Prof. Adolphe Haberer, concerning Haberer's writing an article on poet Philip Larkin,

1993-1994.

Haberer reminds Heaney of their having met at a conference in Caen and his intention to write an article on Larkin 'from the angle of two poets of a younger generation ... namely Tom Paulin and yourself'. In response Heaney refers to his own writings on Larkin (his essay 'Joy or Night' and an 'Irish Times' obituary)and his thoughts on reading Haberer's finished essay. Passing reference is also made by Heaney to Helen Vendler's travelling to Dublin to receive an honorary degree from Trinity College (July 1993) and by Haberer to Michael Longley's scheduled attendance at the ESSE Conference in Bordeaux (Sept 1993). Letters date from 22 June 1993 to 22 January 1994.
