Notes:Cole's letter, written from Northwood House, contains sketches of Northwood including one of the rear view of the house 'with proposed additions', and is dated 1 June 1840. His letter refers to the architectural changes due to be made to the house.

Charles William Hamilton (1802-1880) was the eldest child of Charles Hamilton of Hamwood House, Co. Meath and Caroline Hamilton (née Tighe). He succeeded to the family estate of Hamwood following his father's death in 1857, and like his father, served as agent to both the dukes of Leinster and his relative Daniel Tighe of Rossana, Co. Wicklow.

Offaly in April 1841. Hamilton married Letitia Armstrong the following June.
