Notebook 1 contains drafts dated 3 Febuary and 12 April 1990 and includes use of early working titles 'The Fire Cure' and 'Marching Orders'; Notebook 2 (A4 notebook, with attached, loose inclusions) contains dated drafts covering the period 14 Febrary - 19 April 1990; Notebook 3, (a spiral bound notebook) contains an incomplete fragment draft dated 12 March, 12 April and 5 June 2007, with variant titles including 'Archer's Honour' and 'The Gift of the Bow'; Notebook 4 drafts dated from 20 April to 7 July 1990 and with attached loose inclusions; Notebook 5 (A4 notebook, without covers) contains a fragment draft dated 27-28 May, with attached loose inclusions, dated 19 May and 17 and 21 June 1990; Notebook 6 contains an incomplete draft, with pages dated 21-25 June 1990.

| Notes: | Heaney's adaption of Sophocles' play 'Philoctetes', titled 'The Cure at Troy', was first performed in the Guildhall, Derry and first published by Faber and Faber, in 1990.
