Features photographs of colonial life in Africa, including social gatherings among colonials, their residences, motor cars and boating expeditions, African people at work, an African soldier and annotated loose photograph of a convoy crossing the Assegai River in Piet Retief, South Africa. Also included are photographs of assorted sites of antiquarian interest in Ireland, including Blarney Castle and the Rock of Cashel, and of people socialising outside the Pavilion Bar in Trinity College Dublin.

Engineer, economist and astronomer, Edgeworth (1880-1972) was born in Daramona House, Street, Co. Westmeath. He served in the Royal Engineers and Royal Signals, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1926, after which he worked for the British Department of Posts and Telegraphs in Sudan. During his later years, spent in Cherbury, Booterstown, Co. Dublin, he published work on astronomy and economics.
